WoW Forever City of Dalaran: Entrance, Quests & Lyn
Plan a WoW Forever City of Dalaran run: reported faction entrances, sewer-key quests, Lyn the Ignored's tome chain and the limits of current beta information.
City of Dalaran opened for beta testing in Blizzard's October 8 update. It is the old Eastern Kingdoms city in the Alterac Mountains, not a later expansion's floating Dalaran. Faction access, quest pickups and the hidden boss below come from named beta reports; this site has not independently run the dungeon.
Level range and what is actually confirmed
Our dungeon hub retains the earlier 28–33 planning bracket. Wowhead's reviewed guide recommends 28–34, while the current beta cap is 30. Neither a recommendation nor a planning bracket proves a minimum entry level. The official October 8 note confirms availability, not every entrance condition or drop.
Before forming a group, agree on the beta build, ruleset, faction and whether you want the optional boss. Use server/grouping rules and the leveling guide rather than treating a higher listed level as currently obtainable.
Where is the entrance? Alliance versus Horde
Wowhead's beta guide points Alliance players to Image of Archmage Modera outside Dalaran. For Horde, it describes a sewer gate and a key questline from Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill. Its route starts with Prison Break In and Key to the City, followed by Dalaran Patrols, Blood in the Streets and Heart of Disruption, leading to the Dalaran Sewer Key.
That report says a key holder can open the gate for others; it does not require every group member to complete a personal attunement. Confirm your current quest text before travelling. We are not supplying an independently measured map pin, a guaranteed shortcut or a promise that older beta access bugs still work.
Dungeon entry is not unrestricted access to the city afterward. A separate developer clarification reported by Wowhead says full Horde city access was not intended. Do not build your hearthstone or reputation plans around that beta behavior.
Which quests should I check before the run?
These are reported pickups, not a complete quest log or a guarantee of availability on every character:
| Side | Quest to check | Reported starting point |
|---|---|---|
| Horde | The Grave Knight | Melisara, Tarren Mill |
| Horde | Source of Power | Doctor Martin Felben, Undercity |
| Alliance | Power Overwhelming | High Sorcerer Andromath, Stormwind |
| Alliance | A Green Sample | Shylamiir, Stormwind |
| Access chain | Heart of Disruption | Image of Archmage Modera; Horde prerequisites above |
Ask each party member to check prerequisites and log space before leaving town. Matching a quest name is more reliable than assuming all same-level characters have the same offers. Rewards and exact eligibility need a current-client check; we have not invented either.
Spoilers: how do you summon Lyn the Ignored?
Wowhead's secret-boss report describes this beta chain:
- After Arugal in Shadowfang Keep, collect the Black Tome from his table.
- At Ambermill Leyline Focus in Silverpine Forest, use it to obtain the Tome of Dalaran.
- After Atrexis the Grave Knight, follow the sewer side passage to the purple rune and use the tome to summon Lyn the Ignored.
These are reported steps, not this wiki's client-verified walkthrough. Arrange the tome before the run and agree on spoilers with the group. If the object or interaction differs, record the build and quest state rather than guessing a missing prerequisite.
How should we prepare for encounters and loot?
Bring a tank, healing and recovery supplies appropriate to your party; decide who handles interrupts, dispels and extra enemies. Tell the group before opening an optional encounter. On a first run, stop to read effects rather than treating this as a timed speed route.
We do not yet publish a complete boss-by-boss route, drop-rate table or BiS claim for Dalaran. The Loot Database currently covers a separate early-dungeon snapshot, not Dalaran loot. Use the source guide for provisional encounter details and check the actual in-game reward before farming.
