Class Choice
WoW Forever Tier List: Best Class by Role & Level
WoW Forever tier list by goal: compare solo leveling, DPS, tanks, healers and PvP. See beta evidence, launch predictions and which class fits your group.
For solo leveling, start by comparing Hunter and Warlock; for tanking, Warrior, Paladin and Feral Druid; for dedicated healing, Priest. This WoW Forever tier-list guide separates role recommendations from historical beta rankings and level-60 predictions. There is no verified launch DPS winner in our evidence. Choose for the activity you want to play, not one universal S-tier label.
Jump to leveling and solo play, dungeon DPS, tanks, healers or PvP. Looking specifically for level-60 rankings or race choices? Those need a different evidence check.
The beta closed on October 23, after its cap rose from 20 to 30. Those results cannot establish launch population or level-60 performance. Check race/class access and name reservation before creating your character.
Quick class chooser
Reviewed November 2. Role advice below is editorial, not a measured level-60 ranking. The beta comparisons are identified separately.
| Goal | Compare first | Scope and reason |
|---|---|---|
| Solo leveling | Hunter, Warlock | Pets and recovery; Mobalytics' leveling comparison covers beta levels 1–30 |
| Melee leveling | Warrior, Paladin | Weapon/Rage management versus healing and defensive recovery |
| Tanking | Warrior, Paladin, Feral Druid | Compare Threat, defensive tools and form management for your group |
| Healing | Priest, Shaman, Paladin, Druid | Dedicated healing versus hybrid support and alternative roles |
| Ranged control | Mage | Frost control, roots and distance management |
| Stealth and control | Rogue | Openers, interrupts and escape tools |
| Multiple roles | Druid; Shaman for Horde support | Choose the forms or support toolkit your group needs |
| Historical dungeon DPS | Marksmanship Hunter | Crix/Mobalytics placed it first for level-30 beta dungeons on October 23; not launch data |
Recommendations by playstyle
For solo play, compare downtime and recovery; for dungeons, role coverage and control; for PvP, the match format. Equipment, build, execution and group support can change the recommendation. These use-case groups are not S/A/B damage tiers.
Easiest first solo character
- Hunter — shortlist for pet-supported questing. The pet makes ordinary pulls more forgiving, but pet control and keeping enemies at range still matter.
- Warlock — shortlist for sustained solo play. A demon and recovery tools can reduce downtime; managing Health, Mana and enemy attention adds decisions.
- Paladin — consider if recovery and a defensive toolkit matter more than an aggressive pace. Self-healing does not guarantee the fastest quest route.
The Mobalytics leveling list also places Hunter and Warlock first, but explicitly evaluates levels 1–30 in beta, not a measured 1–60 launch run. Our shortlist above is playstyle advice, not an independent speed test. Use the archived 1–30 route with its version limits.
Best if you want groups quickly
- Warrior — a natural pick for players willing to tank and learn Threat.
- Priest — a direct healing identity with strong early dungeon value.
- Paladin and Shaman — flexible support choices whose utility remains useful even while leveling.
Tank tier list: compare the job before the rank
Compare Warrior for a dedicated tank path, Paladin for a tank/healing toolkit, and Feral Druid if switching forms and possible roles appeals to you. Warrior asks for Threat and resource management; Paladin adds spell and Mana decisions; Druid requires managing form-specific tools. These are different responsibilities, not proof that one takes the least damage in every dungeon.
For a premade group, choose who will tank before choosing every player's DPS spec. For a level-60 tank comparison, look for matched gear, encounter mechanics and incoming-damage evidence; a leveling speed rank does not answer that question.
Healer tier list: dedicated healing or a hybrid?
Start with Priest if healing is your main goal. Compare Paladin, Shaman and Druid if their support tools or alternative roles are part of the appeal. A hybrid's flexibility is a reason to choose it, not evidence of lower or higher healing throughput.
Agree on the group's support needs, then consider Mana management, recovery between pulls and the mechanics of the dungeon. We do not have a comparable launch healing dataset from which to declare one universal best healer. Your healer's leveling pace and their value in a coordinated group are separate questions.
Best for experienced players who want control
- Mage — consider for roots, distance and spell control; positioning and Mana decisions are the tradeoff.
- Rogue — consider for stealth, openers and interrupts; control needs timing and does not guarantee a win after a failed opener.
- Druid — consider for adapting through forms and different tools; that flexibility requires more resource and form decisions.
These are control-oriented picks, not a verified PvP ladder ranking. A level-30 duel, open-world encounter and coordinated battleground judge different things. The community list directory includes an October 23 level-30 1v1 list; its format cannot establish the best level-60 battleground class. See PvP and faction restrictions before choosing with friends.
DPS tier list: beta dungeons versus launch
If damage is your priority, first choose melee or ranged and whether you want boss damage, multi-target pulls or outdoor play. The Mage, Hunter, Warlock and Rogue guides offer starting points for those preferences; they are not a four-class damage ranking, and other classes are not excluded.
Crix's October 23 Mobalytics DPS list puts Marksmanship Hunter first for level-30 beta dungeons. That is a dated publisher assessment, not our test or a launch recommendation. Its discussion also cautions that incomplete tools and differences in gear and group conditions affect comparisons.
Is there a verified level-60 DPS tier list?
Not in the comparable launch evidence reviewed for this page on November 2. The community directory shows DPS and healing entries updated November 1; an update date alone does not establish their level range, methodology or release-client testing. Treat pre-launch level-60 lists as predictions unless their supporting evidence proves otherwise.
Before relying on a ranking, check its level cap, actual build, patch date, gear, encounter and group buffs. Keep single-target, multi-target and raid results separate. A newer class guide or one impressive damage screenshot cannot make unmatched results comparable. The official-update tracker separates announced changes from verified talent data.
What changed in Forever
Blizzard says classes should remain distinct rather than receive identical tools. Ordinary enemies are intended to take roughly 10–15 seconds to defeat, crowd control still matters in dungeons, Threat remains important, and area damage should be used deliberately.
The talent layout keeps the familiar rows while adding a new one-point milestone at 16 points alongside the 11-, 21- and 31-point milestones. That makes early beta planning more interesting, but it does not prove a final meta.

Race tier list: check access and the changed racials
Choose the class and faction you actually want first, then compare the race/class matrix and October 26–27 racial changes. The updated Skyborne abilities include base effects and conditional location buffs; they are not all permanent bonuses. A race table using the older values can change the apparent result before any DPS comparison even begins.
For Rogue, use the existing race-choice guide rather than assuming a racial works for every class. There is no verified universal best race in this page's evidence. Confirm your group's ruleset and faction before the name-reservation checks.
